The expositionlinea

Le soglie della Natura

27.03 - 20.06.2010 (Arco | Palazzo dei Panni - Riva del Garda | Museo)
Narrating nature, in terms of landscape, has always concerned the field of artistic research – either as a backdrop for each specific work or as its focal point, offering a springboard from which to observe the relationship between artistic expression and the human dimension. Italian painting in particular was enriched with new layers of complexity prior to the turn of the 20th century: the study of light became the study of form itself. Both the space of nature and that of the figure come together in the 70 works on display.

Fiamma d'amore
30.04 - 19.09.2010 (Riva del Garda | Museo)
In the light of its in-depth study and research, the exhibition sets out to document the rich musical heritage of the de Lutti family, comprising of scores written for lyrics by the well-known man of letters Andrea Maffei (1798-1885), with melodies commissioned by him from important musicians of the day. This initiative is also enhanced by the presence of a little known canvas by Antonio Puccinelli (1822-1897) showing Lucrezia Borgia. It was painted at the beginning of 1858, presented in Florence at the Esposizione Italiana of 1861.

Roger Ballen. Storie

26.06 - 29.10.2010 (Riva del Garda | Museo)
Recipient of the Homage to Vender, through his award-winning photography, Roger Ballen (New York, 1950) presents an intense journey through his involving images, offering unexpected combinations and varying levels of detail. His shots have a backstage air to them, in which the subjects are suspended between the confines of art, photographic representation and their own social settings.

Thomas Wrede. Panorama
3.7 - 5.09 2010 (Arco | Palazzo dei Panni)
The photography of Thomas Wrede (Iserlohn, 1963) sheds light on the means of representation: how does one recreate an environment? This question leads us to observe an aspect of the mountains looked upon as an urban space in continuous and sometimes surreal transformation – within the relationship between the natural and the artificial. After all, nature is a flexible form: it sets the scene for advertisements, games and surprisingly enough, even dwellings – it may take the form of wallpaper transforming the ordinary walls of a house into beautiful landscape photographs.

Le vie delle anime
9.07 - 1.11.2010 (Riva del Garda | Museo)
Through the presentation of the remains of two important burial grounds unearthed along via Marone and datable to between the first and fourth centuries AD, visitors are presented with the issue of death and ancient man’s very different attitude towards it. Through the material found in some 20 tombs, the collective imagery of the ancient world is put on show before the public, with a display rendered even more evocative by a great fresco, on loan from the National Museum of Rome, featuring a large-scale depiction of the Elysian Fields.

Heribert Ottersbach. Piazze
11.09 - 14.11.2010 (Arco | Palazzo dei Panni)
The paintings of Heribert Ottersback (Koln, 1960) feature images that look like absolutely static photographs; with an almost architectural integrity to them. His paintings cover the surface by defining contours and details; making them ever more evident. In some parts of the paintings, the materials and the brushstrokes seem to emerge from the evanescence of the background. As if frozen, the elements used in the painting become symbolic subjects thanks to the total exclusion of colour volumes.

Paesaggi di guerra
13.11.2010 - 9.01.2011 (Riva del Garda | Museo - Arco | Spazio Casa Collini)
The exhibition display, curated by the Historic War Museum of Rovereto, is held by the MAG in collaboration with the ‘Il Sommolago’ Association,
and presents images of the territory in the wake of the destruction caused by the First World War as well as during the ensuing reconstruction process. The varied display itinerary includes material from a number of associations and organisations that form part of the Trentino Great War Network, featuring photographic documentation of Riva, Arco and the Ledro Valley border areas, which suffered particularly during the period of the war. The exhibition will be presented to the public with a selection of more than 150 photographs.

Francesco Trentini
11.2010 - 2.2011 (Arco | Palazzo dei Panni)
Francesco Trentini was born in Lasino (Trentino Alto-Adige) on 15th February, 1876. From 1893 to 1897 he studied wood and marbleworking at the Imperial Regia Scuola Industriale in Trento. In 1897 he attended an annual course at the Kunstgewerbeschule des K.K. Osterreich Museum fur Kunst und Industrie in Innsbruck. After 1908 he returned to his homeland and built a house for himself using local stone. In 1912 he started work on his statue of the Archduke Albert of Austria for the town of Arco. When World War I broke out, Trentini was drafted into the army, but in the 1920s he produced several statues commemorating fallen WWI soldiers for the towns of Calavino, Lasino, Ragoli, Breguzzo and Romarzollo. From the mid ‘20s until 1931 the artist worked at the Colbacchini foundry. In 1925 he began to collaborate with the ceramic workshop of Leonardo di Vezzano and in 1931 also with the Pardi ceramics works.
